Get Household ReadyFree PDF

GetHouseholdReady.com

Ready depends on your people, your place, and your budget.

A household of four with a dog in a hurricane county is not the same job as two adults in a walk-up that loses heat. Tell us who lives there and where. We send a free overview of water, food, and what actually happens in your state — storms, outages, and the days protests or violence shut a road.

What we size to

Your house, not a catalog

  • How many people sit at the table.
  • Pets that still need water and food.
  • The state and city you actually live in.
  • What you can spend this season.

A plan sized to your people, your place, and your budget.

Cover the house, not a hobby.

Preparedness is local. Heat, ice, flood, quake, and unrest are not equally likely on every block. Close the basics for this household and you are ahead of a messy week.

Water

The number is not the same for every house. Start at one gallon per person per day, plus extra for pets. Closet floors and under the bed beat a bunker.

Food

A two-week shelf of meals you already eat, sized to how many sit at the table. Rotate it with weekly groceries. Budget decides how fast that shelf fills, not whether you start.

Light and power

Flashlights that actually have batteries, a way to charge phones, and one backup light per bedroom. Generators are optional. Finding the stairs in the dark is not.

Medicine and care

A labeled kit for prescriptions, first aid, glasses, and kid or pet needs. If someone cannot skip a dose, that goes on the list first.

Place and people

Hurricanes, ice, heat, quakes, and flood risk change by state. A downtown protest or a closed highway can strand you just as surely as a storm. The plan has to name your street, not a generic disaster.

The house itself

Know the shutoffs. Walk the exits with everyone who lives there. Write one page a guest could follow.
